Savannah's Offshore Fishing Adventure

Trip Overview

Hey there, angler! Ready for some serious offshore action in Savannah? Our 5-hour trip is the real deal. We're talking about heading out to the artificial reefs and wrecks where the big boys hang out. This ain't your average day on the pond – we're going after the heavy hitters like Black Sea Bass, Triggerfish, Grouper, and more. The best part? We've got you covered with all the gear you need. Rods, reels, bait, tackle – it's all here waiting for you. And don't worry about overcrowding; we keep it cozy with a max of 4 guests. That means more elbow room for you to reel in the big ones. Just bring your A-game and maybe a snack or two, 'cause we'll be out there putting in work!

What to Expect on the Water

Alright, let's break it down for you. We'll be doing some serious bottom fishing out here. That means we're dropping lines deep where the fish are hiding out. We'll be using heavy tackle to get down there – none of that light stuff's gonna cut it. Once we hit a good spot, it's all about feeling for that bite. You might feel a little tap, or it might feel like a freight train hit your line. Either way, when you get one on, it's game on! We'll be targeting structure – those artificial reefs and wrecks are like fish condos down there. They're stacked with all kinds of species, so you never know what you might pull up. Could be a chunky Black Sea Bass or maybe even a hard-fighting Grouper. And hey, if the bite's slow, we'll move around. That's the beauty of charter fishing – we go where the fish are!

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

Let me tell you, there's something special about fishing these Savannah waters. It's not just about what's biting – it's the whole package. You've got the sun rising over the Atlantic, the salt air in your lungs, and the anticipation of what might be on the end of your line. Our regulars? They're hooked, pun intended. They come back season after season because every trip's different. One day you might be pulling up Triggerfish left and right, the next it could be a Barracuda that gives you the fight of your life. And let's not forget the bragging rights. Nothing beats showing off a photo of that monster you reeled in from 100 feet down. Plus, our crew? We're not just here to drive the boat. We're here to make sure you have the best day possible on the water. Whether you're a seasoned pro or it's your first time offshore, we've got your back.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Let's talk fish, folks. We've got some real beauties out here in Savannah's waters. First up, the Black Sea Bass. These guys are like the bulldogs of the ocean – stocky, strong, and ready to put up a fight. They love hanging around structure, so when we hit those reefs, be ready. They're delicious too, so if you're into catch-and-cook, you're in for a treat.

Next, we've got the Ocean Triggerfish. Don't let their funky looks fool you – these are some of the tastiest fish in the sea. They've got teeth like a nutcracker and they're not afraid to use 'em, so watch those fingers when you're unhooking. They're curious little buggers and sometimes they'll follow your bait all the way up before they decide to bite.

King Mackerel, or "Kings" as we call 'em, are the speedsters of the bunch. When one of these hits your line, hold on tight! They're known for their blistering runs and aerial acrobatics. We usually catch these guys by trolling, and man, when they're running, it's non-stop action.

Lesser Amberjack might not have the flashiest name, but they're a blast to catch. These deep-water warriors put up a hell of a fight. They like to hang out around the deeper wrecks, so when we're fishing for these, you know we're in the thick of it.

Last but not least, there's the Cobia. These are the prize fighters of our waters. They're strong, they're smart, and they don't give up easy. When a Cobia decides to take your bait, you better have your drag set right 'cause you're in for a workout. They're seasonal visitors, usually showing up in the warmer months, so if you're here at the right time, you might just get lucky.

Top Catches This Season

Listen up, because this is where it gets good. This season's been on fire, and I'm not just saying that. We've had folks pulling up some real monsters. Just last week, Jimmy – a first-timer if you can believe it – hooked into a 40-pound Cobia. Thought we were gonna have to cut the day short 'cause that fish nearly spooled him! But he stuck with it, and an hour later, we had that beauty on the deck. Photos don't do it justice.

And let's not forget about the reef fishing. We hit a sweet spot last month where the Triggerfish were practically jumping in the boat. One of our regulars, old Bill, he must've caught 15 in an hour. Said his arms were sore for days after, but he was grinning ear to ear the whole time.

Oh, and here's a good one – we had a bachelor party out a couple weeks back. These guys had never been deep sea fishing before. Well, wouldn't you know it, they managed to hook into a school of King Mackerel. It was chaos on the deck for a while there, but man, the looks on their faces when we got those fish in the cooler? Priceless. That's what it's all about right there.

Time to Book Your Spot

Alright, folks, let's cut to the chase. If you're still reading, I know you're itching to get out on the water. And let me tell you, there's no better time than now. The fish are biting, the weather's perfect, and we've got the hottest spots dialed in. Whether you're a seasoned angler looking for your next big catch, or you've never held a rod in your life, we've got you covered. Remember, we're limited to 4 spots per trip, so don't wait too long. These charters fill up fast, especially when the bite's hot. So what are you waiting for? Give us a call, shoot us an email, or hit that 'Book Now' button. Trust me, your future self will thank you when you're out there, rod bent, fighting the fish of a lifetime. Let's make some memories on the water – Savannah style!

Learn more about the species

Black Sea Bass

Black Sea Bass are a popular target off Savannah, typically weighing 2-4 pounds but can reach up to 8. You'll find them around structure like reefs and wrecks in 30-120 feet of water. They're most active in warmer months when they move inshore. Anglers love their firm, white meat and the fun fight they put up. To catch 'em, use a medium-weight rod with 20-30 pound line. Drop your bait to the bottom and slowly reel up - they often hit as it rises. Live bait like squid works great, but they'll also go for jigs and plugs. Just watch out for their sharp dorsal spines when handling them. Fun fact: they start life as females and can change to males as they grow larger.

Black Sea Bass

Cobia

Cobia are one of the most exciting fish we target here. They're big, often 6 feet long and 100 pounds, with a shark-like appearance that'll get your heart racing. You'll spot them near buoys, wrecks, and even following large rays in 30-70 feet of water. Spring and early summer are prime as they migrate through. Cobia are prized for both their fight and their excellent taste on the table. Sight fishing for them is a blast - look for their distinctive shape just below the surface. Throw a bucktail jig or live eel in front of them and hang on. They're known for powerful runs and acrobatic jumps. Here's a pro tip: always have a heavy rod ready with a pre-rigged jig. When you see a cobia, you often only get one shot before they spook.

Cobia

King Mackerel

King Mackerel, or "kings," are speed demons that'll test your skills. These sleek fish average 20-30 pounds but can top 90. Look for them in 40-150 feet of water, often near inlets or drop-offs. They're migratory, so spring and fall are prime times as they pass through. Kings are famous for their blistering runs and aerial acrobatics when hooked. Trolling with live bait or large spoons is the way to go. Here's a local trick: use a stinger rig with two hooks - kings often bite the back half of the bait. Wire leaders are a must to prevent bite-offs. These fish make for some exciting action, but be aware they're high in mercury, so limit consumption. The fight alone makes them worth targeting though!

King Mackerel

Lesser Amberjack

Lesser Amberjacks are a bit of a hidden gem out here. They're smaller than their greater amberjack cousins, usually topping out around 25 inches and 10 pounds. You'll find them in deeper water, typically 180-430 feet down. They like to hang around reefs and wrecks. These fish are open season year-round, which is nice. To catch 'em, try drifting with live bait or cut fish - mullet works great. You can also have luck jigging or trolling with artificial lures. The key is getting your bait down deep where they swim. Use a vertical jig to reach the bottom. While they're not as well-known as other gamefish, landing a good-sized lesser AJ can still earn you bragging rights. Plus, they put up a solid fight for their size.

Lesser Amberjack

Ocean Triggerfish

Ocean Triggerfish are a real treat to catch around here. They're usually 10-18 inches long, with tough, gray bodies built for the reefs. You'll spot them near drop-offs and artificial structures in 35-100 feet of water. These fish put up a scrappy fight and taste great too. The challenge is their small mouths and sharp teeth. Use a small, sharp hook - I like a #4 or #6 circle hook. Bait it with a coin-sized piece of squid or live bait. They're notorious for nibbling, so be patient. When you feel a bite, don't yank - just start reeling. And watch out when you bring them in the boat - they'll try to lock themselves in place with that first dorsal spine. Triggerfish are here year-round, but fishing's best in summer.
